HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE SUPPORT BRIGADE ?

To be eligible to join the Volunteer Fire Support Brigade, we ask that you attend for three (3) visits before you will be invited to join the Brigade. That could be for example one (1) Meeting, one (1) Training, and one (1) Maintenance Day, or two (2) Meetings, and one (1) Training.

Once you have attended one (1) of our meetings, our Volunteer Fire Brigade Recruitment Officer can advise you of your further expectations and will assist you in joining the Brigade as an active member.

All eligible members will then undergo a police clearance and working with children check (The cost of these will be paid by the City of Wanneroo). A medical check is done if you/we have any concerns.

THEN WHAT?

After you have completed a two weekend basic training course you will be issued with your own Personal Protective Equipment and become an active member of the Brigade. A one day Introduction Course may be held until the next full basic course is available.

The next step you will undertake probation time through participation in training and as crew at incidents, with mentoring from our experienced Volunteer Fire Support Brigade members.

Meetings: As an active member we would ask that you continue to attend the monthly Brigade Meetings on the first (1st) Monday of each month (Please note – Some Public Holidays fall on a Monday, but the Fire Support Brigade meeting will generally still be held). These meetings are held at 7pm at 14 Hidden Valley Retreat, Clarkson.

Roster and Call outs to Incidents: You will be placed on roster for at least one (1) weekend, 6pm Friday until 6pm Sunday, each month of the year. As well as a couple of weeknights from 6pm to 6am. Members are required at the station for departure to an incident within 20 minutes of a call.

Maintenance: On the first Sunday of each month at 0900 (subject to change), members do a maintenance check and inventory on all of the Fire Support vehicles.

Training: The Fire Support Brigade holds training on the second and third Wednesday’s of each month from 7pm to 9pm, at the station (14 Hidden Valley Retreat, Clarkson). All members are required to complete a minimum of eight (8) training sessions in a 12 month period in order for the Brigade to meet its duty of care requirements and for members to keep up to date with operational policy and procedures.

SOCIAL CLUB

The Wanneroo Fire Services has a very active social club. Events and activities such as the family Christmas function, social BBQ get togethers are arranged from time to time throughout the year. All Brigade members and their families are welcome to attend Social Club events.

Details about Social Club events are provided at Brigade meetings.
